Roxanna Sarkar-Patel - Associate

Roxanna brings an employment, insurance and general litigation background to Howlett Brown, having trained and worked at an international law firm and a medium-sized UK law firm, reputed for its insurance capabilities. Roxanna graduated from UCL with a bachelor’s degree in French language and literature in 2015 and subsequently graduated from BPP Law School with a distinction in 2018. 

Roxanna has gained a range of experience across contentious, transactional and advisory matters since qualifying in September 2020, and has acted for a number of international clients from both an advisory and defence capacity. Roxanna worked as in-house Legal Counsel whilst on secondment to Unilever Plc in 2019, where she worked directly with various stakeholders and teams, such as the Unilever Investment Funds Team and the Unilever Enterprise, Technology and Solutions Team. 

From an employment perspective, Roxanna has advised on global employment issues and projects, employee handbooks and policy reviews, drafting employment, consultancy and settlement agreements, assisting clients on data subject access reviews and assisting on various corporate transactions. From an insurance and general litigation perspective, Roxanna also has experience in assisting clients with international and national complex coverage disputes, successfully defending a client in a high-profile breach of contract dispute and advising on employer liability claims from a coverage perspective.  

Dedicating time to diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives is important to Roxanna and she has worked with several organisations over the years, such as The InterLaw Diversity Forum. She was also the co-chair of her training firm’s ethnicity network, where she was responsible for building the network, engaging with clients in respect of the firm’s work in this space and assisting the firm in its recruitment and retention initiatives. 

Roxanna was appointed as a Governor for Old Palace of John Whitgift School in November 2020 and advises on school governance and procedure and the education and wellbeing of students.
